To truly understand the greats

To converse with the greats is to communicate with the historical figures who are looked up to. In Vera Pavlova’s poem, “To converse with the greats”, she explains how we must “[try] their blindfolds on” and rewrite their books in order to correspond with them. My interpretation of this is that we need to put ourselves in the shoes of the greats in order to communicate with them. We must understand their perspectives and put ourselves through what they went through in order to truly connect with their works. With blindfolds, we can block our own biases from affecting our thoughts while reading the works of the greats and directly communicate with them, one on one, "in the solitary confinement of the universe."
